MLB Chief Operations and Strategy Officer Chris Marinak is departing after 17 years with the league to explore new opportunities. A staff memo distributed Tuesday confirms he will leave at the end of the year.
Marinak, recognized as an SBJ Forty Under 40 Hall of Fame designee in 2018, joined MLB in 2008 within the labor department. He progressed to Executive Vice President of League Economics and Strategy and played a pivotal role in securing two collective bargaining agreements with the players’ union.
In 2017, Marinak was elevated to EVP of Strategy, Technology & Innovation, where he oversaw fan-facing technologies such as MLB.com and MLB.tv, as well as ticketing operations and the scheduling process.
Three years later, his responsibilities expanded again to include marketing, international affairs, and major events, covering marquee initiatives like the All-Star Game, the World Series, the MLB World Tour, and the World Baseball Classic.
